How did you get your foot through the door at L’Oreal?
When I decided that I wanted to look for a new job, I worked with a recruiter. I was applying for all of these amazing full time jobs but I’m a beauty and fashion junkie so it was a perfect fit for me! Even though it was only a temporary role to begin with, L’Oreal is such a massive company I thought that if I do a good job, there will be another role for me to move into. L’Oreal is really good in that way, so if they do like a consultant, they will try and find other ways to work with them. I proved myself to be very good at the job so when the girl who had left for maternity leave decided that she didn’t want to come back, they hired me full time.
What is the approach to social media at Maybelline?
I’ve been in this role for a little over a year now and when I first started, I was the only person internally working on social! At the end of this year, L’Oreal decided that it was really important that the brand voice come from within the brand itself and so all community management was brought internally and no longer split with the agency that we worked with. This meant that I was then managing seven social platforms, which is quite a lot for one person! We are now a team of 3 people and have split the platforms between us.
-”The brand I work for really is part of who I am.”
-”If you want to be a community manager or work in social, it’s really important to like the brand you’re working on – especially if you’re the voice of that brand because it really is a 24 hour job.”
-”In my job, I get to manage the three properties that are my favorite!”
